Core Research Grant (CRG)
Extramural Research (EMR) funding scheme of SERB to academic institution, research laboratories and other R&D organizations to carry out basic research in all frontier areas of Science and Engineering is in limelight for more than four decades since from the inception of SERC.
Objective
The scheme provides core research support to active researchers to undertake research and development in frontier areas of Science and Engineering
Eligibility
Private Academic institutions with valid UGC / AICTE / PCI approval, Private R&D Institutions with valid DSIR-SIRO recognition, and Voluntary and Non-Governmental Organizations registered under NITI-AAYOG Darpan portal are eligible to host a project.
Applicants [Principal Investigator (PI) and Co-Principal Investigator(s) (Co-PI(s))] should be Indian citizens. Foreign nationals (including OCI and NRI) are also eligible to apply provided they fulfill the eligibility criteria notified by SERB (SERB Funding Guidelines for foreign nationals dated 27th Oct 2016).
Nature & Duration of Support
National Laboratories and Research Institutions should share 50% of the non-recurring cost of the project. For projects with a total cost of more than Rs. 80 Lakh, 50% of the non-recurring and consumables cost should be shared by the Lab/Institution. If the project is approved for SERB support, a certificate from the National Laboratory / Research Institution will be required for the same.

Scientific and Useful Profound Research Advancement (SERB-SUPRA)
A. Quantum of advances (incremental and short terms gains are strongly discouraged).
B. Extent of disruption in fundamental understanding or impact on outstanding research grand challenges: new areas, new concepts, new products, new disruptive technologies.
C. Ability of research outcomes in enhancing scientific knowledge of the cutting-edge at the international level and/or the emergence of critical technologies.
D. Global impact, outstanding publications, advancement of science.

Objective
BIPP supports the development of appropriate technologies in the context of recognized national priorities
Eligibility
The proposals can be submitted by following
Single or consortia of Company (ies)* incorporated under the Companies Act, 2013 or Limited Liability Partnership (LLP), incorporated under the Limited Liability Partnership Act, 2008 jointly with or without the following:
• Public/private university/colleges in India
• National research laboratories
• Not-for-profit private research labs/societies/foundation/NGO
Minimum 51% of the shares of the Company should be held by Indian Citizens holding Indian passport [Indian Citizens do not include Person of Indian Origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) holders]
Nature & Duration of Support
This scheme provides BIRAC contribution up to 50% of the project cost as Grant- InAid and the remaining cost is to be met through the company/LLP’s contribution.
The fund disbursement is milestone-based and is released in 5 installments:
• 1st installment on the signing of GLA 30%
• 2nd installment on completion of 1st technical 20% milestone
• 3rd installment on completion of 2nd technical milestone 20%
• 4th installment on completion of 3rd technical milestone 20%
• 5th installment on Submission of Project Completion Report 10%
